With Northampton Town set to make the trip to Leicester City in the First Round of the Carabao Cup, Cobblers supporters may be casting their minds back to the last time the two sides met at the King Power Stadium — then known as the Walkers Stadium.
That meeting came in October 2008, with the Cobblers earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw against a Leicester side pushing for promotion back to the Championship.
On paper, it was a point gained. In truth, it was a determined defensive display from Stuart Gray’s side, who stood firm under heavy pressure throughout.
Leicester started brightly and should have gone ahead inside the opening ten minutes. Former Cobblers winger Lloyd Dyer found space on the edge of the box, but his right-footed effort failed to seriously test Frank Fielding in the Northampton goal.

The Foxes continued to push, with Matt Fryatt wasting a golden opportunity from six yards out before Joe Mattock, Andy King and Steve Howard all failed to convert decent chances as the home side piled on the pressure.
But Northampton had moments of their own.
Danny Jackman came closest for the visitors, forcing a save as the Cobblers looked to catch Leicester on the break. Later in the game, Adebayo Akinfenwa nearly snatched all three points when his powerful header was cleared off the line by Aleksandar Tunchev.
It was a resilient display from the Cobblers, who left the Walkers Stadium with a valuable point and plenty of pride intact.
Now, almost 18 years on, Town will return to face Leicester once again — this time under the lights in the Carabao Cup. For supporters who remember that afternoon in 2008, they’ll be hoping for another famous result on Foxes soil.
