Alan Young will be the man in the middle when Northampton Town welcome Newport County to Sixfields.

Young will be assisted by Lee Venamore and Ian Cooper, with Matthew Scholes taking up the role of fourth official.

The experienced official has already taken charge of two National League fixtures this season. His first came on 22 August as Eastleigh beat Scunthorpe United 3-2, where he showed one yellow card.

He then refereed Altrincham’s 2-1 victory over Halifax Town on 28 August, producing four yellow cards.

Young is no stranger to the Cobblers, having taken charge of Northampton on a number of occasions over the years.

His most recent Cobblers appointment came in January 2026, when Northampton were beaten 2-1 away at Rotherham United.

During the 2024/25 season, Young took charge of the Cobblers’ 0-0 draw with Cambridge United at Sixfields, while a season earlier he was the referee as Northampton suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Barnsley.

Young also oversaw Northampton’s 2-1 victory away at Swindon Town in October 2022 and the goalless draw at Port Vale in February 2022.

Interestingly, Young has previously taken charge of this exact fixture. He was the man in the middle when Northampton Town beat Newport County 2-0 at Sixfields in September 2019.
