Played For Both – Crewe Alexandra

Vadaine Oliver

Oliver joined Crewe Alexandra from Lincoln City in June 2013, signing a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee. He made his debut as an 89th-minute substitute in a 3-3 draw with Rotherham United and scored his first Crewe goal in a 2-2 draw against Peterborough United, sliding home a Brad Inman cross.

He later joined Northampton Town from Morecambe in July 2019 on a one-year deal. Oliver made 30 appearances and scored four goals during his time at Sixfields, helping the Cobblers win promotion through the League Two play-offs in 2019/20.

Paul Bancroft

Bancroft spent a lengthy period on loan with Crewe Alexandra after struggling to establish himself during two seasons with Derby County.

He later arrived at Northampton and initially became a first-team regular. However, as the management shuffled the side in search of a winning formula, Bancroft found himself out of the team.

He left the Cobblers at the end of the season and moved on to Nuneaton.

Daniel Powell

Powell joined Northampton Town from MK Dons in May 2017 on a two-year contract.

He went on to make 64 appearances and score eight goals for the Cobblers before leaving Sixfields to join Crewe Alexandra in the summer of 2019.

Powell went on to make 42 appearances and score 10 goals for Crewe.

Billy Waters

Waters progressed through Crewe Alexandra’s academy and was first called into the senior squad in October 2012. After being an unused substitute on five occasions during 2012/13, he signed his first professional contract in May 2013.

He spent two years with Crewe, making 25 appearances and scoring twice, before eventually joining Northampton from Cheltenham Town in 2017.

Waters played under three different managers during his time with the Cobblers and also had three loan spells away from Sixfields. He made 39 appearances and scored two goals for Northampton.

He scored an impressive eight goals in his first 16 games, before suffering a serious broken leg against Port Vale in October 2012 which brought his season to a premature end.

In July 2018, Nicholls joined Crewe Alexandra on a one-year contract. He enjoyed a dream debut, scoring twice in a 6-0 victory over Morecambe, before leaving the club at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Ashley Westwood

Westwood joined Crewe Alexandra in 2001, making just six appearances before later moving to Northampton Town.

His time with the Cobblers was heavily disrupted by injury, restricting him to only nine appearances during the 2003/04 season.

He left Sixfields at the end of the campaign after not being offered a new contract and subsequently joined Chester.

Billy Bodin

Bodin made eight appearances for Crewe Alexandra towards the end of the 2011/12 season.

He later joined Northampton Town in 2015 on a deal until the end of the campaign, having spent time with the club while recovering from a serious knee ligament injury.

Bodin made four substitute appearances for the Cobblers before leaving Sixfields that summer.
