Former Northampton Town winger Kenji Gorré has been named in Curaçao’s squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup, as the Caribbean nation prepares to appear on football’s biggest stage for the first time in its history.

Gorré spent part of the 2016/17 season at Sixfields, making 18 appearances for the Cobblers during the club’s return campaign in League One. The winger scored once during his spell with Northampton, finding the net in the EFL Trophy against West Ham United U21s.

Born in the Netherlands, Gorré came through the youth system at Manchester United before continuing his development with Swansea City. Prior to his move to Sixfields, he had also featured in Dutch football with ADO Den Haag.

His arrival at Northampton came during a difficult campaign for the Cobblers following promotion from League Two. Despite the club’s struggles throughout the season, Gorré remained part of the squad during a transitional period under Rob Page and later Justin Edinburgh.

Following his departure from Sixfields, the winger continued his career across several countries, including spells in Portugal and Iran, while also becoming a regular international for Curaçao.

Curaçao’s qualification for the World Cup marks a historic moment for the nation, and Gorré becomes the latest former Cobblers player to feature at a major international tournament after representing Northampton Town earlier in his career.
