2020 Started with a visit from local side Stevenage at the PTS Academy Stadium. A game which sure Paul Anderson make his 50th Cobblers Appearance. Also it saw Andy Williams score a last minute goal to secure the Cobblers first 3 points of 2020.

Next in 2020 the Cobblers attention turned to the FA Cup for our 3rd round tie at the Perrelli Stadium v Burton Albion. Goals from Nicky Adams, Ryan Watson, Charlie Goode, Sam Hoskins scored 4 goals in the Cobblers great 4-2 victory over Burton. This was the first time since 2004 that the Cobblers where in the Fourth round.

In the Draw for the fourth round the Cobblers were drawn at home to Wayne Rooney’s Derby County. For one busy Friday night in late January, Northampton will be the focus of the BT Sport cameras when the Cobblers’ Emirates FA Cup 4th round tie with Derby County is shown live, at the same time as Northampton Saints take on London Irish at Franklins Gardens, a game also being shown live by the same broadcaster. What a night we had in store.

On January the 10th Former Northampton Town defender Eric Brookes, who was part of the Cobblers team beaten 8-2 by a George Best-inspired Manchester United, passed away aged 75.

Eric was mostly a left full-back, and made 81 appearances for Town between 1969 and 1971, including in that infamous afternoon at the County Ground in 1970.

On the 11th January the Cobblers traveled to Salford where Andy Williams Scored a 63rd mint winner for the Cobblers to win the game 2-1. And put another 3 points in the bag.

The 14th Jan saw Egli Kaja Contract ended but continued rehab at the club and Paul Anderson extended his contact until end of the season.

The 18th of Jan saw the Cobblers beat Morecambe 4-2 at the PTS Academy Stadium. Thanks to goals from Anderson, Watson, Adams and Lines. 4 goals gave us 3 points.

21st Jan the Cobblers made the Tuesday night trip to Leyton Orient where 17 year old Kettering born striker Ethan Johnston became the second Northampton Town Education Program student to make the first team squad. After 2 red cards the game ended 1-1 thanks to Watsons goal.

24th Jan was the BIG game of the month the game which saw the Cobblers Take on championship side Derby County at the PTS Academy Stadium, where a SELL OUT crowd watch the cobblers battle out for a 0-0 draw and take Derby to a reply at Pride Park. This was a mementos game also for David Cornell as he made his 100th Northampton Town Appearance.

After the fantastic support on the Friday night the Cobblers fans were rewarded the signing of former Coventry City, Bradford City, Charlton Athletic and Gillingham winger Mark Marshall. 2 days later Keith Decided he needed some loan additions to his squad and signed Arsenal midfielder James Olayinka and West Broms Callum Mortan joined the club on loan.

The Cobblers where in the hat for the FA Cup fifth round fist time in 50 years since 1970! And the Cobblers drew Manchester United, a little ironic really as that was the same as the last time the cobblers got to the fifth round in 1970. First the challenge was to beat Derby at Pride Park.

28th Jan saw Scunthorpe visit the PTS Academy Stadium with Ex-Cobbler Kevin Van Veen returns to Sixfields with 9 goals under his belt this season. That was no worry for the Cobblers tho 3 goals scored none conceded in the cobblers ingressive 3-0 win over Scunthorpe.

On deadline day for January 2020 the cobblers made one late addition of Lloyd Jones who came on loan from Luton Town for the rest of the season.

And that was just January!
