Simon joined the Cobblers after an horrific time at Stoke where he suffered injuries to both knees a broken ankle and cheekbone.
He had played at Birmingham together with the Northampton manager Ian Atkins.
It was a season the Cobblers struggled and Simon failed to recapture the goal scoring form he found at Birmingham his first club where he won an Associate members cup medal and promotion.
He was loaned to Shrewsbury during the latter part of 1999-00 with a view to a permanent move but it did not happen.
Simon is the brother of Dean Sturridge and the uncle of Daniel.
