Ahead of the Tuesday nights meeting between the Cobblers and Ipswich. We look back at some of the players that have played for both the Cobblers and Ipswich. How many do you remember?

Jason Dozzell

Jason started his footballing career at Ipswich town in 1983 before moving to Tottenham in 1993. Jason made 395 appearances for Ipswich in his two spells then scoring 73 goals. He joined Northampton ON On the 1st of August 1993. Manager Ian Atkins had played with Jason during his first day at Ipswich and signed him until the end of the season and, Jason made 25 appearances scoring 4 goals for the Cobblers.

Keith Gorman 

Keith started his career in 1983 with Ipswich town spending four seasons With them. In 1986 Keith went on loan to Colchester making just one appearance. In November 1986 he joined the cobblers on loan making only two substitute appearances.

Irvin Gernon

Irvin started his career at Ipswich in 1979 spending eight seasons with them before making loud spells with Newcastle and the cobblers. Irvin came to the cobblers for his first spell in 1986 making 13 appearances. His loan spell ended with a Cobblers and he joined Gillingham on loan from Ipswich making 15 appearances. In March 1987 Gillingham signed Irvin For £30,000 we made 24 appearances for the first team. In September 1998 he joined Reading for £20,000 where he spent two seasons making 31 appearances. In October 1989 he rejoins the Cobblers for 2 1/2 seasons in his time at the Cobblers he made 72 appearances and scored two goals.

Joe Broadfoot

Joe started of his career at Millwall where he where he spent seven seasons before joining Ipswich in October 1963. In joined Northampton in November 1965 for £30,000 he made 18 appearances and scored one goal before moving back to Millwall in 1966 for one season before thenThen moving back to Ipswich He made a total of 114 appearances scoring 21 goals.

Luke Chambers

Luke came through the youth system at the Cobblers, and earned his first team place in 2002 before signing a professional contract in November 2003 Luke spent five seasons with the Cobblers making 151 appearances scoring one goal before joining Nottingham Forest In January 2007 for an undisclosed fee where he made 210 appearances. In July 2012 Luke joined Ipswich on a free transfer way still is today.

Dean Bowditch 

Dean started his footballing career at Ipswich town in 2003 Where he made over 70 appearances scoring 20 goals. Think I’m on rain to the cobblers from Ipswich in November 2008 he made 11 appearances scoring two goals. Dean rejoin the couples in 2017 Making 31 appearances and  scoring three goals.

NABIL ABIDALLAH

Nabil joined Ipswich in June 2000 where he spent four seasons he made 2 appearances for Ipswich. He Joined the cobblers in January 2004 way made 2 appearances, but returned At the end of the season before being released.

Gavin Johnson (header image)

Gavin started his career at Ipswich in 1988, spending seven seasons there. In his time at Ipswich he made 160 appearances and scored 16 goals.He came on loan to the Cobblers in August 2005 spending only a season with us making 26 appearances scoring the 1 goal. 

Chris O’Donnell 

Chris started his career at Ipswich in 1986 in his timer Ipswich he made 23 appearances playing in the league, FA Cup, League cup full members cup and the play-offs. Chris came online to the Cobblers in January 1988, he arrived on the Saturday and was put straight into the first team however, at half-time manager Graham car took him off told him to change, leave and never come back.

Terry Austin

Turn up joined Ipswich in 1973 Made 23 appearances and scored two goals. Terry joined the Cobblers in August 1983 where he made 51 appearances and scored 30 goals.

David Cornell 

David joined the Cobblers from Oldham in 2016 Making over 90 appearances in his four seasons with the club before moving to Ipswich in 2020 where is so far he’s made six first team appearances.

Paul Anderson

Paul was with Ipswich between 2013 – 2015 were he made over 60 appearances and scoring 6 goals. He had 2 spells with the Cobblers in 2016 he made 36 appearances scoring 6 goals and in 2019/20 he made 14 appearances scoring 1 goal.
