Adebayo Akinfenwa
On 18 January 2008 Akinfenwa signed a deal with the Cobblers until the end of the 2007-2008season. He made his debut against Swindon Town, where he came off the bench to score a late equaliser in a 1–1 draw. He then had the same impact in his home debut, scoring the equaliser in a 1–1 draw against Leeds United.
Despite not featuring in the following game against Yeovil Town, he started the next home match against Gillingham, and scored two goals in a 4–0 win. He scored three further goals that season.
On 30 May 2008, Akinfenwa signed a new one-year contract at Northampton despite declared interest from Leyton Orient and Grimsby Town.
He started the 2008–09 season well, scoring twice in three matches by the end of September.
Akinfenwa ended his stay at Northampton in May 2010. He had been offered a new deal but Northampton could not agree a deal with him within an agreed timeframe.
He returned to the Cobblers on 25 May 2011, after new Cobblers manager Gary Johnson brought him in to “capture the imagination of the supporters”.
He scored his first goal against Bristol Rovers on 16 August. On 10 November 2012 in a match against Accrington Stanley, Akinfenwa scored his first, and to date only, professional hat-trick.
On 20 June 2014, he signed for League Two side AFC Wimbledon, who had pursued his signature for 14 months. On 30 May 2016, after scoring a penalty in a 2–0 win against Plymouth Argyle in the League Two Play-off Final.
Egli Kaja
Kaja signed a professional contract with AFC Wimbledon in April 2015, and made his first team debut on Saturday 26 SeptemberHe scored his first goal for Wimbledon in an EFL Trophy tie against Barnet on 29 August 2017. He mace 22 appearances for the Dons.
On 2 September 2019, Kaja joined Northampton on a free transfer until January 2020. Kaja only made 4 appearances for the Cobblers.
Brett Johnson
Johnson’s time at Sixfields was hampered by persistent hamstring injuries and despite spells away on loan in non-League football to gain fitness, he managed just 13 appearances before his contract expired at the end of the 2006-2007 season. Bret made 26 appearances for the Cobblers before moving to Brentford.
In August 2009, Johnson dropped into the Conference Premier to join AFC Wimbledon Despite suffering from further injuries, he was a part of the team which clinched promotion to the Football League. Brett made 79 appearances for AFC Wimbledon.
Rod McDonald
Rod signed for the Cobblers In 2015 McDonald made his debut for Northampton in a 3–0 win over Exeter City. He eventually established himself as a regular starter in the side as they went on to win the Leauge Two title with the Cobblers. igning a new contract with the club until the summer of 2018 in February 2016.
He Left the Club in 2017 after making 30 appearances and scoring 3 goals. On 2 August 2018, McDonald joined League One side AFC Wimbledon for an undisclosed fee. He made 38 appearances before moving to Carlisle.
Brennan Dickenson
AFC Wimbledon signed Dickenson on loan for one-month in February 2013. He made his debut on 23 February in Wimbledon’s 1–0 win at Dagenham.
In all, Dickenson made seven appearances for the Dons, Still without a first-team appearance for Brighton, Dickenson was allowed to leave and he came on loan to the Cobblers until the end of the 2013–14 season on 8 February 2014.
He scored one goal for the club, in a 2–0 win against Hartlepool United on 22 February, and made 13 league appearances.
Alfe Potter
On 29 February 2008, Potter was loaned to Isthmian League Premier Division side AFC Wimbledon, for a month.He made his first appearances for the Posh in the League upon his return.
On 20 May 2015, it was announced that Potter would be reunited with former manager Chris Wilder by joining Northampton Town on a two-year contract.He scored his first and what turned out to be only goal for Northampton in a 2–1 win over Stevenage on 24 October 2015.
Sam Walker
Sam joined the Cobblers in 2011 He made his debut for the Cobblers in an opening day 0–0 draw with Accrington on 5 August. However, on 23 December, having made 24 appearances for the club, Boothroyd decided to send Walker back to Chelsea after announcing that Shane Higgs would be first choice.
On 11 January 2021, Walker joined League One side AFC Wimbledon on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
Kaid Mohamed
Mohamed Signed for AFC Wimbledon on a ‘nominal’ fee on a short-term contract in March 2011. He made 7 appearances and scored one goal in his first spell with the Dons. As he join again on loan in 2013 making 5 appearances.
Mohamed joined the Cobblers on loan from Port Vale in 2014 – 2015 making 23 appearances scoring 3 goals for us.
Ryan Clarke
Clarke signed for League Two club Northampton Town on a two-year contract on 2 July 2015. However didn’t make a first team appearance.
On 21 June 2016, Clarke joined League One newcomers AFC Wimbledon on a one-year contract he made 7 appearances for the Dons before leaving for Eastleigh.
