Cobblers Past and Northampton Town Football Club are saddened to learn the passing of former reserve team player Des O’Connor.
Des O’Connor was born in the East of London in 1932. He was evacuated to Northampton during the Second World War and was briefly a professional footballer with The Cobblers. Des played a few reserve games for the Cobblers just after the war.
After completing National Service in the RAF he worked as a redcoat at Butlins this was where he met his wife.
He then went onto be sales man in the town at Churches Shoes both on the road and in the office.
Before his break in television, his first theatre appearances were in variety, where he appeared in venues throughout the country.
He then went on to be the Des O’Conner that we will never forget. Our condolences are with Des’s family and friends.
