Cobblers Past and Northampton Town Football Club are saddened to learn the passing of former Chairman Derek Banks.
Banks came to England from India in 1960, a Watford Supporter.
Neville Ronson sold his shares to Derek Banks, a tobacco trader, who cleared outstanding debts, and together with a consortium of businessmen gave new manager Graham Carr money to inject the side with the players he wanted.
Despite the problems that all Clubs experienced with their grounds, the atmosphere for the 1985/86 season was electric, as slowly, new players were signed and effort after effort was put in by the directors to make sure some kind of a stand was ready by the new season.
In this, Northampton’s 89th season, they proved they were down but not dead. 1986 will see them rise, like a phoenix from the ashes.
We would like to send our Condolences to Derek’s family and friends.
