Simon Mather will be the man in the middle for Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy clash between Northampton Town and Brighton & Hove Albion U21s at Sixfields.
The Man in the Middle
Mather is no stranger to the Cobblers, having taken charge of seven Northampton league fixtures since 2021.
Town have lost just once with Mather in charge, recording three wins, three draws and one defeat.
His most recent Cobblers appointment came in August 2025, when Northampton drew 0-0 with Bradford City at Sixfields. Other notable games include the 4-0 away victory over Peterborough United in April 2025 and the 2-1 Sixfields win over Peterborough four months earlier.
During the 2025/26 season, Mather took charge of 35 matches across League One, League Two, the National League, EFL Cup and FA Cup. He showed 116 yellow cards and one red, averaging just over three yellows per game.
So far this season, Mather has officiated one match, overseeing Harrogate Town’s 5-2 National League victory over Solihull Moors on 8 August, showing just one yellow card.
