Last 6 AWAY meetings

Here is a look back at when the Cobblers last visited the County Ground

Matt Taylor’s free-kick rescued a point for Swindon as they came from behind against Northampton at the County Ground.

The home side should have broken the deadlock after just seven minutes when James Dunne had his close-range shot saved by David Cornell.

Swindon came close to taking the lead again as clever link-up play eventually saw Cornell deny Marc Richards with another save.

Northampton had to wait until the 22nd minute before their first real opportunity fell to Sam Hoskins, who broke free before seeing his shot parried against the post.

The visitors came alive after the break and almost went ahead through Andy Williams, only for Swindon’s Taylor to deny him a chance from six yards out.

However, they didn’t have to wait long for their goal which came in the 58th minute when John-Joe O’Toole volleyed in from a Hoskins cross.

But Swindon responded in emphatic fashion, Taylor curling his free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Last time out

Theo Archibald scored a last-minute winner as Macclesfield’s first game since Sol Campbell’s departure ended in a dramatic 2-1 victory over Northampton.

Danny Whitaker was in temporary charge after Campbell left on Thursday and his side led at half-time through Ben Stephens’ strike. Jordan Turnbull equalised, only for Archibald to win it at the death.

Joe Ironside headed an early chance wide for the visitors but Northampton pressed for the opening goal with Matty Warburton off-target from long range and Scott Wharton heading over. Macclesfield struck against the run of play six minutes before half-time when Archibald’s perfect through ball was swept into the bottom corner by Stephens.

Jak McCourt smashed a post with a free-kick in first-half stoppage-time and David Cornell was at full stretch to deny Stephens a second after half-time.

Northampton levelled with 18 minutes to go when Charlie Goode flicked on a corner and Turnbull poked in at the back post.

Andy Williams missed an open goal three minutes later and that proved costly when Archibald found the bottom corner in the last minute.

Exeter and Swindon shared the spoils in an entertaining 1-1 League Two draw at St James Park.

Substitute Matt Jay gave the Grecians the lead, turning in Lee Martin’s cross, but debutant Eoin Doyle grabbed a deserved equaliser two minutes from time for the Robins.

Swindon named new signing Doyle in their starting line-up and it was the Bradford loanee that came closest to breaking the deadlock. He struck the base of the post following a swift

Robins counter attack, one of many that caused Exeter problems in the first half.

Exeter struggled to create anything of note in the first half and Jake Taylor’s speculative long-ranger, which was held by Luke McCormick was the closest they came to a breakthrough.

Taylor went off injured early in the second half and it was his replacement, Jay, who broke the deadlock on 72 minutes when he turned in Lee Martin’s fierce drive.

Jay almost added a second, but his shot was blocked on the line by team-mate Dean Moxey and it proved costly as, with two minutes remaining, debutant Doyle turned in a Zeki Fryers cross to earn Swindon a deserved point.

Swindon Summer Signings

Richie Wellens thoughts ahead of the match.

“We’ll give them as much chance possible and wait until tomorrow morning. But I’d say they are struggling at the moment. It’s the first time this season we’ve had to change personnel – apart from Jerry Yates’ suspension. If we are without Keshi and Lloyd then we’ll have to change the way we play a bit because we won’t have the same pace.”
