1897

Northampton Town Football Club was formed.

1909

As Champions of the southern league, the Cobblers play Newcastle United in the Charity Shield at the Oval.

1911

The Cobblers Signed Walter Tull

1920

Northampton Town joined the football league.

1925

The Cobblers make their first signing from an overseas club, ex-Scarborough player William Shaw joins from the Spanish side Barcelona, having scored 31 goals from 38 games the previous season.

1936

The club pay their first four figure transfer fee when they sign James Bartram from Falkirk for £1,000.

1958

The Cobblers beat Arsenal 3-1 in the FA Cup.

1959

Dave Bowen is appointed as Player/Manger.

1961

Tommy Fowler plays the last of his 522 games for the club.

1965

The Cobblers promoted to the top flight of English Football.

1965/66

Northampton Town’s one and to date only season in the highest level of English Football. A County Ground record crowd of 24,523 watched the visit of Fulham in April 1966.

1968

Phil Neal joins Northampton Town, later moving to Liverpool he went to be one of the most successful English players of all time.

1970

George Best scores 6 times as Manchester United win a 5th round FA Cup tie 8-2 at the County Ground.

1987

The Cobblers win Division 4 after scoring 103 goals and securing 99 points.

1993

Northampton Town come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Shrewsbury Town on the last day of the season to preserve their football league status.

1994

The Cobblers leave the County ground and move to Sixfields. Martin Aldridge scores in a 1-1 draw v Barnett in the opening game.

1997

The clubs first visit to Wembley in their centenary year. John Frain scores a last-minute winner against Swansea City in the division 3 play off final in front of 32,000 Northampton Town Supporters.

1998

42,000 Cobblers fans are present to see their team in action in the Division 2 Play off final against Grimsby town.

2004

Sir Alex Ferguson brings his Manchester United side to Sixfields for an FA Cup 4th Round tie. Cristiano Ronaldo Stars for United in a 3-0 Win.

2010

Northampton Town Beat Liverpool at Anifield in a 3rd round League Cup tie on penalties.

2016

The Cobblers win League 2 by 13 points and win promotion to league one.

2016

Jose Mourinho brings his Manchester United Side to Sixfields for an EFL Cup tie. United won 3-1 and went to lift the EFL Cup five months later.

2020

Cobblers were in the hat for the fifth round for only the fourth time in the club’s long history. After a 0-0 Draw with Derby County in the fourth round took us to a replay at Pride Park. Where the Cobbler had the Chance to play Manchester United in the Fifth Round. But a 4-2 defeat for the Cobblers meant they lost the

2020

Sky Bet Leauge Two Playoff winners in behind closed doors 4-0 win over Exter City at Wembley Stadium. The semi-final first leg against Cheltenham Town saw the Robins win 2-0, but a stunning comeback in the second leg saw Northampton Town win 3-0 to progress to Wembley.
