Rebecca Welch has been confirmed as the referee for Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture between County and Northampton Town at Edgeley Park.
She was promoted to the EFL later that year, becoming the first ever female referee in the Football League. She took charge of 17 games in all competitions last season, issuing 57 yellow cards and one red card.
Welch has refereed Stockport last season in the National League at Edgeley Park in a 1-0 win over Yeovil Town.
She also was in charge of the Cobblers V Sutton game at Sixfields last season, where the Cobblers lost 2-0. Welch awarded 5 yellow cards, with four of those to the losing side.
So far this season, Welch has refereed ten games in League One (3), League Two (3), the Papa John’s Trophy (3) and the FA Cup (1), showing 30 yellows and no reds to date.
Welch will be assisted on the day by Robert Atkin and Steven Rushton, whilst the Fourth Official will be Ian Smedley.
