History Never Forgotten

We take a look at some of the many players, past and present, who have represented both The Cobblers and Boro.

Joel Byrom

Cobblers: 2014-15 (loan) 2015-16 

Boro: 2009 – 2012 2018-2020

Joel Stevenage for a fee of £15,000 in May 2009. Byrom was part of the Stevenage team that earned back-to-back promotions from the Conference Premier to League One. He left Stevenage after three years. 

joined Preston North End in August 2012. During his time at Preston, he was loaned out to Oldham Athletic and the Cobblers respectively. The latter move was made permanent in January 2015, and he helped Cobblers achieve promotion to League One during the 2015–16 season.

Joel made over 70 appearances and scoring 5 goals for the Cobblers. 

In January 2022 he joined Northern Premier League Division One West side Clitheroe FC where he stills is today. 

Steve Morison

Cobblers: 1999 – 2004 

Boro: 2006 – 2009

Morison started his career at The Cobblers at the age of 16, progressing through the club’s centre of excellence. He made his first-team debut in 2002.

e signed for Stevenage Borough for a “small four-figure fee” in August 2006. During his first season with the club, 

Having scored 86 times in 151 appearances during his three seasons at Stevenage.

Andy Woodman

Cobblers: 1995-1999

Boro: 2004-2005

Ian Atkins rescued Andy’s career when he signed him from Exeter in March 1995. In eight months and ten games for the Grecians Andy had been sent off Twice!

A fine shot stopper Andy Northampton Town almost four years making two Wembley appearances in 1997 and 1998 in the division Three and two final play offs respectively.

He joined a very elite band of players who saved a penalty on the hallowed turf when he did so v Grimsby Town in 1998.

During the 1998-99 season the club struggled and Andy lost his place to Billy Turley allowing him to join Brentford for £100,000.

After finishing his playing days he firstly joined Rushden as coach and cover keeper before becoming a goalkeeping coach at West Ham and later Charlton.  In 2011 he was goalkeeper coach for Newcastle moving on to Crystal Palace in 2015.

In resent times he’s been managing no league side Bromley.
