Ahead of Tuesday nights game v Rochdale, we look at players that have played for both the Cobblers and Rochdale. How many can you remember?
Joe Bunny
Joe signed for Rochdale in 2013 from Northwich Victoria he was with Rochdale until 2018, he made 122 appearances in his first spell scoring 16 goals. He joined The Cobblers in 2018 making 16 appearance but also making two loan spells one at Blackpool and one with former club Rochdale.
Ian Henderson
Ian came to the Cobblers from Norwich in 2007. On 27 December 2008, Northampton terminated Henderson’s contract with immediate effect after Henderson did not start a game for the Cobblers during the 2008–09 season and he had failed to score in 33 first-team appearances.
He signed for Rochdale in 2013 where he stayed until 2020 he made a total of 297 appearances and scored 112 goals for Rochdale.
Keith Welch (Header Image)
Keith started his career at Rochdale in 1987 after leaving his youth career at Bolton. Keith stayed with Rochdale until 1991 making 205 appearances. He joined the Cobblers from Bristol City in 1999 where he made 117 appearance before leaving for Tranmere in 2002.
Eugene Martinez
Eugene spent three seasons with Bradford City before switching to Rochdale giving the Lancashire club another three seasons. He joined Newport in 1983 paying his own expenses for the trial. It worked as he was given a seasons contract
He spent two months on loan at Northampton.
After football Eugene worked for Chase advance Technologies in Bradford before becoming general manager of Underwood Court management in Ilkley, Leeds.
James Burt
James joined the Cobblers in July 1972, At Northampton he started off as a first team regular but lost out in mid-season to Alan Oman. He made 17 appearances before leaving for Rochdale in 1973 where he made just 4 appearances. A season at Rochdale was followed by a return to Leicester where he turned out for Enderby Town.
Micky Holmes
Micky joined Rochdale from Cambridge I’m 1989 where he made 69 appearances scoring 9 goals in the 3 seasons he was there.
After losing his place at Carlisle he had a loan spell at Wisbech before joining Northampton where his old Wolves team mate Phil Chard was manager. He stayed just two months at Northampton before moving back to the midlands and playing non-league football.
Daryl Burgess

Alex Russell
Alex started his professional career at Rochdale making 114 appearance scoring 15 goals. Before moving to Cambridge.
Alex came to the Cobbler’s on loan and proved to be influential with so many youngsters in the side.
Northampton tried to sign him on full terms but he turned them down preferring to try and win back his place in the Bristol City side. Alex made 14 appearance and scored 1 goal for the Cobblers.
Andrew Flounders
Andrew joined Rochdale in 1991 from Scunthorpe madding 113 appearances scoring 33 goals for them. He joined the Cobblers in 1994 making just 2 first team appearances.
He scored a hat-trick for the reserves against the Cobblers reserves and John Barnwell decided he could do a job for the Cobblers.
Frank Fielding
Frank joined the Cobblers in September 2008 on loan from Blackburn Rovers. Frank only made 12 appearance for the club before leaving for Rochdale in January 2009 again on loan from Blackburn.
Helped Rochdale to promotion in 2010 keeping ten out of eighteen clean sheets. He was also named as substitute keeper for England’s full game v Hungary in August 2010.
Vic Cockcroft
Vic came to the Cobblers in 1962, He joined the Cobblers but was considered cover for Theo Foley and Mike Everitt during most of his time at the County ground.
His best season was in division One where he made sixteen appearances and scored his one and only league goal.
He moved to Rochdale in June 1967 making 43 appearances. A season with Rochdale was followed by another nearer his home with Kidderminster as player coach but he resigned after a few months unhappy with the part time players attitute to training.
Jerome Watt
Jerome joined the Cobblers in 2006 making 10 appearance for the Cobblers. There was no place in Stuart Gray’s side hence a loan spell at Morecambe and Salisbury before joining Rochdale on a free transfer.
Marc Richards
Northampton Town legend and temporary assistant who’s had 2 spells with the Club winning the League Two Title in 2016. On first spell he made a loan spell with Rochdale making 5 appearances.
