Akinfenwa Strikes Again as Cobblers Edge Past Grimsby

Adebayo Akinfenwa’s 15th goal of the season proved decisive as Northampton Town secured victory over Grimsby Town, capitalizing on a controversial red card in the 66th minute.

The Cobblers had taken an early lead through Liam Davis, who coolly slotted home in the 14th minute after Akinfenwa’s clever through ball set him up perfectly. However, Grimsby hit back just before the break when Jamie Devitt’s incisive play down the left allowed Michael Coulson to expertly guide a right-footed shot past Jason Steele.

The game’s turning point came when Grimsby centre-back Oliver Lancashire saw red for what appeared to be an elbow on Billy McKay, leaving the hosts a man down. Northampton wasted little time in exploiting their advantage, with Akinfenwa rising highest at the back post to powerfully nod in Luke Guttridge’s pinpoint cross.

With that, the Cobblers claimed all three points, with Akinfenwa once again proving the difference in a hard-fought contest.
