1998 – the Cobblers 1 Wigan 1 – Division 3

The last game of the first month of the new year saw Wigan Athletic as the visitors to the County Ground and saw the Cobblers make 2 changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Preston North End just three days before.

Logan returned in place of Williams who dropped to the substitutes bench. Donegal replaced the injured Longhurst.

This game saw referee Mr P Foakes from Clacton book only one player, Pilling of Wigan.

The first goal of the game came in the 18th minute as Pilling rose above everyone at the far post to head home a Cook corner.

The Cobblers went in at the break 1-0 down and had to come out in the second half looking for that goal, Adcock opened his account for the club tapping a Chard pass into an empty net on the 67 minute and that’s how the match ended 1-1.

1993 – Chesterfield 1 Northampton 3 – Divison 3

An away trip down to Saltergate to face Chesterfield. The Cobblers side saw 3 changes to the side that lost 2-0 at home to Crewe the Tuesday before. Beavon, Chard and Wilkin replace, Parsons, Brown and McParland the latter two being suspended.

Referee Mr P Harrison booked only one player in this match and that was Beavon for the Cobblers.

The Cobblers took the lead in the game as Chard stooped to head in an Angus flick from a Bell corner.

After Half time Chesterfield equalised as Norris latched on to a Turnbull corner. But the Cobblers took the lead again two minutes later as Terry made it 2-1 as he headed home a Bell free kick.

The Cobbler put the game to bed in the 81st minute as Bell and Chard worked the ball into the area drawing the defenders and leaving Scott unmarked, he stroked the ball home.

1996 – The Cobblers 1 Plymouth 0 – Division 3

A Tuesday night game at Sixfields Stadium to end the first month of the year.

There was two changes to the side that beat Bury 1-0, 10 days earlier, Turley returned as did Armstrong for the suspended Woodman and the injured Peer.

The Cobblers took an early lead on 16 minutes as Sampson swung at a Burns corner and his shot was defelected past Petterson.

The Cobblers looked to double there lead as Hunter struck the ball into the back of the net, however it was disallowed for an infringement.

The game finished 1-0 to the Cobblers who took all three points.
