24/11/20 – The Cobblers 0 Charlton 2
Substitute Darren Pratley broke the deadlock shortly after half-time and then Jack Sowerby’s own goal confirmed a fourth defeat in five League One games for the Cobblers.
Northampton made the brighter start and would have been ahead if not for the reactions of Ben Amos who brilliantly denied Sam Hoskins at close range.
That was the only clear chance of a lacklustre first half, although Northampton felt they should have had a penalty after Danny Rose went down in the box.
The visitors were ahead out of the blue after 54 minutes when Ryan Inniss nodded down a corner and Pratley, only just off the bench, smacked into the roof of the net.
Paul Smyth missed a great chance for 2-0 but it did not matter as the visitors doubled their lead on the hour when Alfie Doughty’s low cross was turned into his own net by Sowerby.
Benny Ashley-Seal almost got Northampton back into it but he shot over and Charlton saw out a third successive win.
30/03/18 – The Cobblers 0 Charlton 4
Bowyer, placed in temporary charge last week, saw Ben Reeves hand his side an early advantage before Fosu scored either side of half-time and then Josh Magennis headed in a late fourth.
The Addicks sit two points and one place outside the play-offs, while Northampton remain third from bottom.
Chartlon were ahead after 14 minutes when Lewis Page’s peach of a cross was headed in by Reeves and it was two five minutes later courtesy of Fosu, who strode through the middle of the pitch and found the bottom corner from 20 yards.
Nicky Ajose and Jake Forster-Caskey had further chances before the visitors went three ahead five minutes into the second half as Fosu scored his second, driving home from 25 yards.
Magennis added the gloss to Charlton’s victory 10 minutes from time, heading in Reeves’ cross at the back post.
19/09/17 – Charlton 4 The Cobblers 1
Heading into the game without a goal this season, the visitors’ task got even tougher when they conceded a Josh Magennis header from a Ricky Holmes cross with just two minutes played.
Justin Edinburgh’s men responded well, seeing shots from Marc Richards and Billy Waters saved by Ben Amos.
Charlton could have extended their lead after 32 minutes when Tariqe Fosu was found by Magennis but dragged his effort wide.
Karl Robinson’s side managed to double their advantage after the break when Holmes embarked on a superb run before firing the ball past David Cornell with 61 minutes on the clock.
Northampton pulled a goal back with 11 minutes remaining when Richards headed in to give the visitors a glimmer of hope.
However, the nerves were settled for Charlton when Jake Forster-Caskey fired home from Ezri Konsa’s pass with four minutes of added time gone before adding a superb second three minutes later to cap a fine performance.
04/03/17 – The Cobblers 2 Charlton 1
The Cobblers had not beaten the London club in over 50 years but O’Toole’s second-half winner at Sixfields Stadium helped to end that run.
Michael Smith initially handed the hosts the lead ahead of Jordan Botaka’s equaliser before the break.
With defeat, Charlton’s winless run stretched to eight games, while Justin Edinburgh’s outfit tasted victory for the first time in four games.
Visiting goalkeeper Declan Rudd was called into action after 27 minutes to keep out Zander Diamond’s goal-bound header.
However, after 32 minutes Rudd was beaten by Smith as the Addicks went behind for the sixth successive game when the Portsmouth loanee headed home Aaron Phillips’ cross from the right.
The hosts’ lead only lasted four minutes before Botaka bundled home after Ezri Konsa Ngoyo’s header was kept out by Adam Smith and the Leeds loanee netted his second goal of the season.
Seconds after the restart Botaka almost doubled his tally as Smith tipped his header over.
In minute 62 Phillips’ drilled cross finally fell to O’Toole, who fired home his seventh goal in as many games for the points.
13/08/16 – Charlton 1 The Cobblers 1
Addicks skipper Johnnie Jackson’s 57th-minute strike cancelled out Alex Revell’s first-half header.
The Northampton hitman, who played for Charlton boss Russell Slade at Leyton Orient and Cardiff, scored after 16 minutes with a headed goal which saw the home side booed off at the break.
Alfie Potter picked out Revell with a looping cross and the forward steered his header across goal and found the back of the net.
Rob Page’s men could have doubled their lead after half an hour but Harry Beautyman’s header drifted just wide of the post.
Charlton came out firing in the second-half with Andrew Crofts and Nicky Ajose both unlucky not to equalise.
The Addicks’ relentless pressure paid off when Ajose played in Jackson who coolly slotted home. The result leaves Slade without a win as Charlton manager, while Northampton extended their unbeaten league run to 26 games.
