Gwyn was playing in Local football in the Rugby area when ex Cobbler Len Hammond recommended him to Northampton.
Although a forward when he started he converted to wing half and became something of a Utility player for the club.
He was selected to play for the division three South side against the North the second half of which was to be televised.
He contacted all his family in Wales and told them to get around a T.V. at the time they were far and few between.
You can imagine the disappointment when he was told that he was going to be replaced at half time by a player who was in ‘the shop window’.
Gwyn became a great friend of Tommy Fowler and after training they could be seen perusing the racing papers picking out their horses for the day.
After twelve years with the club and a benefit match he left for a season with Bedford and another at St. Neots.
