Cobblers Past

History Never Forgotten

The connections between Northampton Town F.C. and the club’s new management team run far deeper than first appearances may suggest, with Technical Director Colin Calderwood at the centre of several key links.

New manager Chris Hogg previously played under Calderwood during their time together at Hibernian F.C.. Hogg was part of Calderwood’s Hibs squad in the Scottish Premier League, giving the pair an existing understanding long before their reunion at Sixfields.

Their relationship was not always straightforward. Calderwood eventually dropped Hogg from the side before the defender was released by Hibernian in January 2012. Despite that difficult ending, the connection between the two has clearly remained, with Calderwood now backing Hogg to lead Northampton into a new era.

Assistant manager Chris Doig also has strong ties both to Calderwood and the Cobblers themselves. Doig played under Calderwood during one of the club’s most successful modern periods, helping Northampton secure promotion from League Two in 2005-06.

A fans’ favourite during his playing days, Doig made over 150 appearances for the Cobblers and became a key figure in Calderwood’s defence. His return to Sixfields means the club now has a coaching team containing familiar faces with strong Northampton connections.
