History Never Forgotten

Sam Hoskins Moves to Third on Northampton Town’s All-Time Appearances List

Sam Hoskins joined Northampton Town on trial in 2015 before earning his first professional contract. Since then, he has become a club legend, becoming the first player in over 20 years to reach 400 appearances for the Cobblers—an achievement only 15 players in the club’s history have accomplished.

In today’s game against Blackpool, Hoskins reached another major milestone, moving into third on the club’s all-time appearances list with 413 games, surpassing Peter Gleasure.

Sam arrived at Sixfields in August 2015 and has been a key figure ever since. By 2021, he had made 232 appearances and scored 36 goals, solidifying his status as a fan favorite.

He made his Cobblers debut in a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers in August 2015, coming on as a substitute for goalscorer John-Joe O’Toole after 73 minutes. Just one game later, he scored his first goal for the club in a 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Blackpool.

His first league start came shortly after in a 2-0 defeat at Barnet. Sam’s first league goal arrived in September 2015 at Sixfields, when he powered home a bullet header from a pinpoint Nicky Adams cross to secure a crucial win over Oxford United.

A defining moment of Sam’s career came during the 2015/16 season when he scored the promotion-clinching goal in a 2-2 draw with Bristol Rovers. That season, he netted eight goals in 42 appearances as Northampton Town cruised to the League Two title.

Throughout his time at the club, Sam has played under eight different managers. In April 2022, he scored his 50th goal for the Cobblers against Harrogate, capping off his most prolific season with 13 goals.

Now just five goals away from reaching 100 for the club, he is on the verge of surpassing the great Frank Large to move into third place on Northampton Town’s all-time top goalscorers list.

As the first player in over two decades to reach 300 appearances—and now third on the all-time appearances list—Sam’s consistency, dedication, and impact on Northampton Town’s history are undeniable.
