We take a closer look at some of those who have played for both the Cobblers and the Ammies ahead of Saturday’s match
Jordon Turnbull
Jordan Turnbull signed a two-year deal with Salford in the summer of 2020. The centre-back was a key figure as With the Cobblers when we were promoted from League Two via the play-offs but was released by The Cobblers after their Wembley triumph. In total he made just under 100 appearances after joining in January 2018, including 42 in 2019-20 and five goals. One of those came against Salford in their 2-0 defeat at the PTS Academy Stadium in October 2019.
Turnbull’s career started in the Southampton Academy, with loan spells at Swindon Town preceding moves to Coventry City and Partick Thistle.
Ian Henderson
Experienced striker Ian Henderson signed for the Cobblers towards the beginning of his career, signing from Norwich City in July 2007. Henderson spent two years at Sixfields and appeared 30 times but failed to find the net for the club.
Henderson signed for Salford City in 2020 and has been a success at the Peninsula Stadium so far. He has made over 55 appearances for the club and has scored 21 goals for the Ammies. He is also something of a creative force, notching up 11 assists as well, giving him a total of 32 goal involvements for the club
Ryan Watson
Ryan Watson signed for Salford City earlier this month from Tranmere Rovers. He has already registered his first assist for his new club as he looks to cement his position in Gary Bowyer’s side.
Watson has signed for Northampton Town on three seperate occasions, twice on loan from Leicester City in 2014 and again in 2015 before sealing a permanent move to Sixfields in July 2019. Ryan was part of the side that were crowned League Two champions in the 2015/16 season as well as being a major part of the side that won promotion via the play-offs in 2020. In all competitions, Watson featured 101 times during his three spells at the club, finding the back of the net 17 times.
Matthew Warburton
Matty Warburton signed for Northampton Town in the summer of 2019, becoming the first player to sign for the Cobblers in that summer. He made 18 league appearances for the club in his first season as the Cobblers secured promotion via the play-offs in a season that was disrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic. He was a bit-part player in his second season, eventually being loaned to Yeovil Town before being released at the end of the season. In all competitions, Warburton made 34 appearances for the Cobblers, netting 4 times in total.blob:https://cobblerspast.com/874101c8-533a-49bb-a25c-f35050a1b94d
Before his spell at Sixfields, Warburton had played for Saturday’s opponents, Salford City. He signed for Salford in 2016 following a prolific three years at Curzon Ashton where he made 98 appearances, scoring 47 times. His stay at Salford was brief as he was there for just one season, making 20 appearances and finding the back of the net twice.
